Freedom of expression and the power of literature unite us across borders. As Estonia celebrates the final month of Book 500 and America marks its 250th anniversary, these shared values guide our March American Spaces Book Club selection.

Our Fulbright research scholar in Estonian Literature, Tucker McLain, chose Kristiina Ehin’s Walker on Water -a contemporary voice that speaks to universal human experiences through surreal, modern folklore.
This is the essence of cultural exchange-scholars pursuing their passions, communities exploring new voices together, and literature bridging worlds.

The book club will be led by Tucker McLane – a Fulbright scholar from Massachusetts who is conducting research on Estonian literature at Tallinn University. He holds a master’s degree in English and recently taught English writing and literature at Northern Michigan University. In his free time, Tucker is a writer and enjoys cooking. He loves classic literature, especially works that depict rural life (Tammsaare is a big favorite! ♥).
