Memory Lab – photo digitisation

The Kalamaja Library (Kotzebue 9) has a Memory Lab, where you can digitise old photos, documents, photo negatives and positives for free.

Equipment

  • Film scanner Kodak Scanza Digital (with Samsung 32GB SD card) – suitable for digitising 35 mm, 126, 110, Super 8 and 8 mm negatives and slides individually.
  • Film, photo and document scanner EPSON Perfection V850 Pro – scans up to A4 documents and photos. Capable of digitising up to twelve 35mm positives and up to three 35mm negatives (3×6 frames) at a time. It comes with two scanning trays (203×254 mm and 60×200 mm for positives).
  • PC
  • GIMP and IrfanView programs

Usage

  • Book an appointment either on the spot, by calling 683 0970 or by writing to kalamaja@tln.lib.ee. If equipment is available, you can use it without booking.
  • To use the devices, present your reader card or ID card (if you use your ID card as a reader card).
  • Please have a look at the Memory Lab-s usage regulations ↓ and equipment guidelines.

  • EPSON Perfection V850 Pro – Basic Training
  • Kivike database – an overview of the Estonian Literature Museum’s archival information system and repository
  • Muis, AIS and FOTIS – Introduction to the Estonian Museums Web Portal, the Archive Information System and the National Archives Photo Information System (FOTIS).
  • Museumbox and museum websites – service introduction and museum ticket search on ESTER
  • A trip to the website of Muis and Estonian folk costumes – exploring the digital repository of museum objects
  • The ABC of family tree research – basic knowledge for constructing a family tree
