Celebration of International Poetry Day
On 21 March, from 12.00-15.30, International Poetry Day will be celebrated with a special poetry walk, which will bring together renowned cultural institutions in Tallinn city centre. Tallinn City Theatre, Estonian Youth Theatre, Estonian Writers’ Union, Südalinna Theatre, Estonian Drama Theatre, Estonia National Opera and Tallinn Libraries will take part in the walk.
The Poetry Walk is a 3.5-hour walk, with performances and readings of poetry at cultural institutions and on the walk. Short performances will take place in front of the cultural institutions at each stop, and poetry will also be heard as you move between them. Poetry will be performed by favourites of Estonian theatre audiences, well-known writers and exciting new voices.
Timetable for the trek:
12.00 Tallinn City Theatre
12.30 Estonian Youth Theatre
13.00 Estonian Writers’ Union
13.30 Südalinna Theatre
14.00 Estonian Drama Theatre
14.30 Estonian National Opera
15.00 Südalinna Library (Tallinn Libraries)
During the event, the Katarina Jee library bus from Tallinn Libraries will be waiting in front of the Estonian National Opera, where you can read poetry and borrow books.
The Poetry Walk was inspired by the celebration of International Poetry Day, organised last year in cooperation between Tallinn Libraries, Estonia National Opera and Estonian Drama Theatre. This year, the warm reception from the public inspired the event to expand and involve other cultural institutions in the city centre.
